For the fifth year in a row, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers. This award, presented by Mediacorp Canada Inc., recognizes employers across Canada that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs.

Equity, diversity and inclusion are part of BLG’s core values and critical to our success as a firm. The objectives of our diversity and inclusion strategy include building a diverse workforce where firm members see themselves reflected in the firm and its leadership; building a culture of respect and acceptance that allows all firm members to bring their authentic selves to work; and supporting equity, diversity and inclusion in the broader community.

New additions to equity, diversity and inclusion at BLG

BLG offers coverage for gender affirmation procedures through its benefits program. The firm also provides guidance on supporting, respecting and accommodating transgender individuals, and preventing harassment and discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression.

The firm raises awareness, creates policies and processes, provides resources and encourages ongoing dialogue on anti-Black racism, including tips on having conversations about race. We also offer bystander intervention training to equip our firm members to stand up to acts of harassment and hate.

BLG’s new Disability in the Workplace series shares information on the range of disabilities encountered in the workplace and best practices for accessibility to ensure a safe, respectful, and effective work environment is available to all.

As part of our commitment to reconciliation, the CBA’s online course The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada is available to all firm members.

BLG also recently introduced a new affinity group, BLG Women. BLG Women is open to all women, those identifying as women and their allies within the firm, with a mission of promoting knowledge and community for women and all firm members.
