Four associates specializing in employment law join McMillan LLP

McMillan LLP recently welcomed a slate of new associates to its firm, including four with a specialty in employment law in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal.

New to the firm are Rachel Wong, Adelaide Egan, Khaleed Mawji, and Eva Langrais.

Rachel Wong – Toronto

Rachel Wong, currently serving as an associate at McMillan, has forged her path in the legal field through a combination of academic excellence and community engagement.

During her tenure as a law student, Rachel made significant contributions to Osgoode’s Student Caucus Executive, showcasing her leadership and dedication to her academic community. She also demonstrated her legal prowess by participating in various Osgoode-wide moot competitions, where her skills were recognized with the Top Oralist Award at the Frozen Open Osgoode Moot.

Beyond her academic achievements, Rachel devoted her time to making a positive impact on her community. She served as a caseworker and family court support worker at the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic in Toronto, where she provided valuable assistance to individuals navigating the complexities of family court proceedings.

Rachel’s educational background includes a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Osgoode Hall Faculty of Law, reflecting her commitment to legal scholarship and practice. Her journey at McMillan commenced as a summer student, and she further solidified her connection to the firm by returning as an articling student. Rachel Wong’s career trajectory is characterized by her dedication to the legal profession and her continuous pursuit of excellence.

Adelaide Egan – Ottawa

Adelaide Egan, currently serving as an Associate at McMillan, has cultivated a diverse and impressive legal background marked by her dedication to community service and academic excellence.

During her academic journey, Adelaide actively engaged with the community by participating in their Community Legal Services Clinic and contributing to Pro Bono Students Canada, where she conducted legal education clinics for at-risk individuals in the London community. Her enthusiasm for legal advocacy also led her to excel in moot court competitions, notably representing the University of Western Ontario at the National Canadian Client Consultation Competition.

Adelaide’s academic prowess was further recognized with distinctions such as the Dean of Law Entrance Scholar and the prestigious Alex Kennedy Memorial Award for Insurance Law. Her exceptional performance throughout her legal studies culminated in her being awarded the Law Society of Upper Canada Prize for graduating among the top 15 students in the class of 2022.

Before embarking on her journey with McMillan, Adelaide honed her legal and policy analysis skills while working with the Federal Department of Finance in the Financial Sector Policy Branch. Her professional experience also extends to the not-for-profit sector in Ottawa, showcasing her commitment to public service.

Adelaide’s educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen’s University. Beyond her legal pursuits, she finds enjoyment in cycling, exploring podcasts, and indulging her passion for Formula 1 racing during her leisure time. Adelaide Egan’s multifaceted interests and dedication to her craft make her a valuable asset to the legal profession and McMillan.

Khaleed Mawji – Toronto

Khaleed Mawji, currently serving as an Associate at McMillan, has a distinguished background marked by a commitment to advocacy and community involvement. During his tenure as a law student, Khaleed assumed pivotal leadership roles within academic and social organizations. He held the esteemed position of President at the Muslim Law Students Association, demonstrating his dedication to fostering a supportive environment within the legal community.

Furthermore, Khaleed’s passion for professional development was evident through his role as Vice-President, Professional Development of the Osgoode OUTLaws. His contributions extended beyond campus boundaries, as he dedicated his time as a caseworker with the Community & Legal Aid Services Program. In addition, he lent his support to the Rainbow Railroad, an organization dedicated to aiding LGBTQ+ individuals escaping persecution.

Khaleed’s commitment to upholding human rights was evident in his work with the Human Rights Legal Support Centre, where he assisted applicants navigating the intricate processes of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Prior to his pursuit of a legal career, Khaleed garnered valuable experience as a Parliamentary Assistant and held youth advisory roles in Vancouver.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Osgoode community, Khaleed was honored with the 2022 Dean’s Gold Key Award, a testament to his unwavering dedication and impact.

Khaleed Mawji holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Osgoode Hall Faculty of Law, complemented by a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of British Columbia. His journey at McMillan began with a role as a summer student, which eventually led to his return as an articling student, highlighting his dedication to his legal career and the firm’s mission.

Eva Langrais – Montreal

Eva Langrais is a promising attorney who is actively establishing herself in the realm of litigation and dispute resolution, specializing in product liability, commercial litigation, and real estate litigation. Within our esteemed Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, Eva plays an integral role at every phase of litigation cases. She also offers her expertise in alternative dispute resolution when litigation may not be the optimal approach, consistently prioritizing the best interests of our clients.

During her academic journey in law school, Eva made notable contributions. She first served as a junior editor and later ascended to the position of executive editor at the McGill Law Journal, showcasing her dedication to legal scholarship. Additionally, Eva volunteered with the Compass Legal Clinic, where she actively served as a caseworker and held the role of director of business development. These experiences provided her with invaluable insights into the legal intricacies faced by businesses.

Eva Langrais boasts an impressive educational background, holding a Juris Doctor, a Bachelor of Civil Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, all from McGill University. Her professional journey with McMillan began as a summer student, and she further solidified her commitment to the firm by completing her articling period here. Eva’s career trajectory is marked by her unwavering dedication to the field of law and her continuous pursuit of excellence.
