Loopstra Nixon LLP has been awarded the Mansfield Certification for 2022/23, highlighting the firm’s dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within its organization, it said in a press release.
The Mansfield Certification, presented by Diversity Lab, acknowledges law firms that emphasize creating transparent and equal opportunities for all eligible lawyers. This initiative is geared towards enhancing diversity in legal leadership roles by broadening the candidate selection pool.
The certification evaluates the steps a firm has taken over the past year to make leadership roles, including lateral hiring, client pitch teams, promotions, and appointments, more accessible to all qualifying attorneys.
Loopstra Nixon LLP’s achievement comes after collaborating with several global law firms. “We’re part of a cohort of over 70 midsize firms working to expand access and opportunities for diverse and historically underrepresented lawyers,” noted Reg Theriault, Co-Champion of the firm’s EDI Committee.
The Mansfield Certification employs a data-driven and behavioural science-based approach. This methodology focuses on incorporating accountability, transparency, and knowledge sharing into talent practices. This ensures that a wide array of talent is considered whenever leadership roles are being decided.
EDI Committee Co-Champion Bobbi-Ann Wallace shared that the firm is poised to “continue our commitment to the Mansfield process as we embark on our second certification cycle. We aim to work collaboratively with the next generation of Loopstra Nixon leaders to develop an inclusive, structured approach for a stronger LN.”
Loopstra Nixon, founded in 1973, comprises a team of over 100 lawyers specializing in business and public law in Canada. Based in Etobicoke, the firm also operates offices in Downtown Toronto, Vaughan, Ottawa, and Newmarket, as well as US satellite offices in Buffalo and New York City.
