Fasken has announced a significant leadership change in its Québec operations, with François Brais set to assume the role of Managing Partner starting Jan. 1, 2024.
This transition marks the conclusion of Éric Bédard’s notable 12-year tenure in the position.
François Brais, a seasoned business lawyer and a Fasken partner for the past 13 years, is recognized for his legal acumen, particularly in investment funds and asset management. His expertise is well acknowledged in the legal community, with accolades from Chambers, Lexpert, Best Lawyers, Who’s Who Legal Canada, and recognition as an outstanding lawyer by Thomson Reuters (Acritas Star).
Brais also actively contributes to various community organizations, including the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Finance Montréal’s Board of Directors, demonstrating a strong commitment to social responsibility.
Brais steps into his new role following the impactful leadership of Éric Bédard, who led Fasken to significant growth.
Under Bédard’s stewardship, the firm expanded its market presence, attracted new talent, improved operational efficiency, and achieved exceptional financial results. Bédard will continue his association with Fasken, leading a new Strategic Advisory Services practice group, leveraging his extensive experience to further the firm’s success.
Reflecting on his appointment, Brais expressed excitement and motivation to embark on this new chapter. He praised Bédard’s strategic vision and contributions to Fasken’s growth and stated his own commitment to upholding the firm’s standards of excellence.
Éric Bédard, acknowledging Brais’s capabilities and client-focused approach, expressed confidence in Brais’s leadership to guide Fasken into the future.
As Fasken welcomes this new phase under François Brais’s leadership, the firm extends gratitude to its clients, colleagues, and partners for their continuous support and reaffirms its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of legal service.
