Three new justices have been appointed to Nova Scotia’s appellate and supreme courts.

Justice Robin Gogan, previously of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, ascends to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal in Halifax, filling the vacancy left by Justice D. Beveridge’s resignation as of April 3, 2023.

Gogan, with a legal career that spans over two decades, brings a wealth of experience in civil litigation, family law, and mediation. Her journey from a managing partner at The Breton Law Group to her recent elevation reflects a career dedicated to legal excellence and community service.

In the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia’s Family Division in Truro, Terence G. Sheppard, K.C., steps into the role vacated by Justice R.S. Morse. Sheppard, a partner at BOYNECLARKE LLP in Dartmouth, transitions from a distinguished practice in family, criminal, and fertility law to the bench.

His appointment as King’s Counsel in 2021 highlighted his professional esteem, further solidified by his extensive volunteer work and leadership within the legal community.

Completing the trio of appointments, Christine Doucet, a partner at MDW Law in Halifax, joins the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia’s Family Division in Halifax.

Taking over from Justice E. Jollimore, Doucet brings a unique blend of journalism and legal expertise, particularly in family law and dispute resolution. Her career, marked by significant contributions to legal education and community service, showcases a dedication to justice and advocacy.
