Prince Edward Island’s minimum wage will increase to $17 per hour on April 1, up from the current $16.50 — a change employers need to reflect in payroll systems before the end of March.

The increase follows a recommendation from the province’s Employment Standards Board and was announced in 2025. It is the latest in a series of annual adjustments under the province’s Minimum Wage Order.

Rate history

P.E.I.’s minimum wage has risen steadily over the past three years:

  • April 1, 2026: $17 per hour
  • Oct. 1, 2025: $16.50 per hour
  • Oct. 1, 2024: $16 per hour
  • April 1, 2024: $15.40 per hour
  • Oct. 1, 2023: $15 per hour
  • Jan. 1, 2023: $14.50 per hour

Board and lodging deductions

Employers who provide board and lodging to employees are subject to maximum deduction limits set under the same order. Current limits are:

  • Board and lodging: $61.60 per week
  • Board only: $49.50 per week
  • Lodging only: $27.50 per week
  • Single meals: $4.25 per meal

Employers cannot charge for a meal an employee did not receive. After deductions, an employee’s pay cannot fall below the minimum wage minus the allowable deduction amount.
