by HR Law Canada

Kimberley Sebag, an employment lawyer and partner at Lecker & Associates, has been appointed as the Director of Social and Events at the Employment Lawyers Association of Ontario (ELAO).

Sebag’s track record of accomplishments speaks volumes about her expertise and dedication to the field. In 2021, she successfully argued Iriotakis v. Peninsula Employment Services Limited, a landmark case in Ontario regarding the deductibility of CERB from damages for reasonable notice.

This decision was published in both the Ontario Reports and Thomson Reuters’ book of Canadian Cases on Employment Law, and has been referenced in over sixteen subsequent decisions across Canada.

In 2022, Kimberley added to her impressive portfolio by successfully arguing Jean-Sebastien Leroux v. Proex Inc., a case of significant importance in practice and procedure, published in Thomson Reuters’ Carswell’s Practice Cases and Canadian Cases on Employment Law. Additionally, she served as co-counsel at the Court of Appeal for Pavlov v. The New Zealand and Australian Lamb Company Limited, where a ten-month notice period for a short-service Director terminated during the Covid-19 pandemic was upheld.

“Her leadership and vision will be instrumental in advancing the mission of ELAO and promoting excellence in employment law practice,” the ELAO stated in a LinkedIn post. “Please join me in congratulating Kimberley on this well-deserved appointment!”
