Langman Contracting fined $1,400 for not paying wages in Saskatchewan

by HR Law Canada

In a recent hearing at the Assiniboia Provincial Court, Langman Contracting Inc. admitted guilt to a charge under The Saskatchewan Employment Act, resulting in a fine and victim surcharge totaling $1,400.

On Jan. 11, 2024, the company — which specializes in agriculture buildings and commercial construction — pleaded guilty to violating The Saskatchewan Employment Act. This admission of guilt came after the company and its corporate directors, Graeme Langman and Vaughn Langman, were initially charged on Aug. 10, 2023.

The specific violation cited under section 2-95 (1) (a) (i) (A) of the Act pertained to the failure of the company to pay wages within the statutory 14-day period following the end of employment.

Following the company’s plea, the Court imposed a fine of $1,000 on Langman Contracting Inc., in addition to a $400 victim surcharge. This brought the total financial penalty for the violation to $1,400. It was also noted in the proceedings that all outstanding wages owed to employees had been fully paid.

Charges against the individual corporate directors, Graeme Langman and Vaughn Langman, were officially withdrawn. This decision shifted the legal responsibility solely to the corporate entity.
