The Town of Kindersley in Saskatchewan has been fined $175,000 after pleading guilty to violating occupational health and safety regulations, following the death of a worker at a municipal worksite in 2022.
On August 13, 2024, the Town of Kindersley admitted in Provincial Court to failing to take all practicable steps to prevent a worker’s exposure to hazardous substances, as outlined in subsection 21-1 (2) of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. This failure led to the tragic death of a worker on August 30, 2022, who was fatally injured while entering a sewer manhole.
The court imposed a fine of $125,000 on the town, along with an additional surcharge of $50,000, bringing the total financial penalty to $175,000.
Four other related charges were withdrawn as part of the proceedings.
